1987 NL: Tim Raines hits for the Cycle




August 15, 1987

Montreal Expos outfielder Tim Raines became the 1st player in MLB to hit for the cycle this season. Raines' feat led the Expos hitting attack in a 14-6 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Tim Raines hit for the cycle and had 2 RBI as the Montreal Expos defeated the
Pittsburgh Pirates by a score of 14 to 6 at Olympic Stadium.

Raines made sure the Montreal fans enjoyed themselves. He doubled in the 1st
inning, tripled in the 3rd inning, slapped a one-base hit knocking in a run
in the 6th inning and smashed a solo-shot out of the park in the 8th inning.
Montreal kept the pressure on throughout the contest as they scored in 6
different innings.

Dennis Martinez(2-7) got credit for the victory, pitching 6 and 1/3 innings
and allowing 4 runs. Brian Fisher(9-10) ended up with the loss. He was
knocked around by Montreal, allowing 10 hits and 3 walks in 6 innings.

Wth the win Montreal now has a record of 54-62. With the loss Pittsburgh now
has a record of 54-63.
