1969 AL Standings- April 21



April 21, 1969

The first season of 2 divisions in both the AL and NL has begun. MLB has expanded both leagues to 12 teams and introduced divisional play. Seattle and Kansas City are the new AL teams. The Baltimore Orioles have gotten off to the best start in the AL this season. The Detroit Tigers and Washington Senators are right behind the Orioles in the East. Oakland and California have started the year as the top teams in the West.

1969 AL News Recap- League Leaders

Rod Carew of the Minnesota Twins and Reggie Jackson from the Oakland A's stand out among the league leaders and both are off to torrid starts early in this 1969 season. Carew is batting .516 and Jackson has clouted 7 homeruns in 11 games.

The first season of 2 divisions in both the NL and AL has begun. MLB has expanded both leagues to 12 teams and introduced divisional play. San Diego and Montreal are the new NL teams. The Atlanta Braves have gotten off to the best start in the NL so far this season. The Houston Astros are right behind the Braves in the West. The LA Dodgers are expecting good things this year but have had a very rough start.
In the NL East the Pittsburgh Pirates lead the division but no team has looked ready to take control this early in the season. All 6 teams are hovering around .500 and only 3 games seperates the top from the bottom.
