June 19, 1969 Detroit at New York

The Detroit Tigers were hitting on all cylinders and outfielder Jim Northrup put on a power display as the Tigers cruised to a 13-2 victory over the New York Yankees. Detroit Tigers announce trade with New York Yankees

June 16, 1969

The Detroit Tigers announced today that they have finalized a trade with the New York Yankees after both players involved passed their physicals. Tom Tresh (ss/of) was aquired by the Tigers for outfielder Ron Woods. The switch-hitting Tresh is expected to get most of his playing time at shortstop, allowing slick fielding Mickey Stanley to return to the outfield. Tom was named AL Rookie of the Year in 1962 and won a Gold Glove as an outfielder in 1965, so he is sure to get some playing time there too.

The Tigers arrived in New York today for the start of a 4 game series. Tresh will probably make his Tiger debut against his former team during the series.

June 14, 1969 Seattle at New York

In sharp contrast on a night that saw the most runs scored by 1 team in the Major Leagues this season, another pitching gem was turned in. Bill Burbach of the New York Yankees threw a no-hitter against the Seattle Pilots. Although Burbach tossed the 4th no-no in the Majors this season, he did give up 1 run in the game. He lost the shutout in the 6th inning when he walked 2, threw a wild pitch, then gave up a SacFly. He did strikeout 13 and picked up his 4th win of the year.

New York fans certainly got their money's worth at Yankee Stadium. Bill

Burbach(4-6) pitched a rare no-hitter as the New York Yankees toppled the

Seattle Pilots 3 to 1.

Burbach provided a brilliant, unforgettable performance for the hometown crowd

at Yankee Stadium evening. He walked 5 Seattle batters. The tension built

to a fever pitch. After the 8th inning everybody in the ballpark was

anticipating what would happen in the 9th. Burbach struckout 13 Seattle

batters. New York rapped out 8 hits for the night.

Marty Pattin(3-8) was the loser. He pitched 7 innings allowing 8 hits and 3

walks. What a show!' Ralph Houk said. 'Burbach was great out there -- I'm

happy that he got it.'

Brooks Robinson ripped 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI and Jim Palmer was able to
finish what he started and was credited with a complete game at Comiskey Park
as the Baltimore Orioles, running on all cylinders, ripped the Chicago White
Sox by a large 21 to 2 margin.

Robinson was really in 'the zone'. He hit a bases-empty home run in the 3rd
inning, lined a one-base hit in the 6th inning, ripped a solo home run in the
8th inning, slapped a base-hit which scored a run in the 9th inning and
tripled scoring a run in the 9th inning. Baltimore lit up the scoreboard in
the 9th inning with 10 runs on 9 hits. The Baltimore offense poured it on,
scoring in 8 of the 9 innings.

Palmer(7-3) allowed 2 runs on the game. Tommy John(7-7) was the loser. He got
hit hard, allowing 8 hits and 2 walks in 2 and 2/3 innings.
