This blog started in 2011 with my attempt to manage the 1969 Detroit Tigers to an AL Championship. Just finished my 1987 asplayed replay (using SOM Baseball 2013 with the cards). As always I managed the Detroit Tigers and succeeded in winning the World Series. 1987 was put on hold while I 'played along' with the 2013 MLB season, so it took over a year to complete. In the 'Favorite sites/links' section are blogs for other seasons I've done: 1911, 1934, 1950, 1971 and more. (View blog fullscreen)

1987 Detroit Wins World Series!
October 25, 1987
The Detroit Tigers are the 1987 World Champions. The Tigers defeated the Cincinnati Reds in Game 7 of the World Series by the score of 3-2. Detroit scored 2 unearned runs in the 1st inning when Alan Trammell reached based on an error by Reds 3rd baseman Buddy Bell with 2 out. Matt Nokes, up next, then launched a 2 run blast into the centerfield bleachers. The Tigers added a run in the 3rd and that was all the scoring they'd need. Bell hit a homerun in the 9th for the Reds but Detroit reliever Mike Henneman was able to get the final 2 outs, preserving the win for Walt Terrell and give the Tigers the 1987 Championship.

49,301 fans watched an exciting game at Tiger Stadium. The Detroit Tigers
topped the Cincinnati Reds by the slimmest of margins, 3 to 2.
Cincinnati found themselves trailing quickly as the Detroit bats came through
in the first inning when they tallied 2 runs on 1 hit. The crucial at-bat
was provided by Matt Nokes who made the crowd come alive when he cleared the
fences for a two-run home run. Cincinnati threatened in the 9th but Detroit
was able to put down the rally.
Walt Terrell(1-1) picked up the victory, allowing 1 run in 6 and 2/3 innings.
Terrell was helped out by Mike Henneman who recorded his 2nd save. Ron
Robinson(1-1) was given the loss.

homerun. Detroit had 16 hits overall, while Cincinnati had 12.
The victory went to Mike Henneman(2-0) who went 2/3 of an inning, allowing no

couple of mistakes and I took full advantage,' Lemon said 'next time I'm sure
they'll pitch me tougher.'
