TORONTO AT BALTIMORE
Blue Jays....... 2 0 0 0 1 1 2 5 0 - 11 10 1
Orioles......... 1 0 3 0 0 1 0 0 1 - 6 14 1
Win:Stieb(17-8) Loss:Boddicker(11-15)
Homeruns- F.McGriff(25th), G.Bell(62nd), W.Upshaw-2(25th), M.Hart(6th)
George Bell became MLB's all-time single season homerun record holder tonight when he hit his 62nd homerun of the year. Bell's homer allowed him to pass Roger Maris and with almost 2 weeks left in the season, he's a good bet to add to that total. Bell's teammate Willie Upshaw ripped 2 homeruns at Memorial Stadium as the Toronto Blue Jays beat the floundering Baltimore Orioles 11 to 6.
Upshaw had a big evening at the plate. He hit a bases-empty home run in the
5th inning and blasted a Grand Slam homerun in the 8th inning. Baltimore had
14 hits in the game while Toronto had 10, but Toronto had the more timely
hits.
Dave Stieb(17-8) picked up the victory, allowing 5 runs in 6 and 1/3 innings.
Mike Boddicker(11-15) was the loser. He served up 4 gopher balls in 7 and
2/3 innings.
This blog started in 2011 with my attempt to manage the 1969 Detroit Tigers to an AL Championship. Just finished my 1987 asplayed replay (using SOM Baseball 2013 with the cards). As always I managed the Detroit Tigers and succeeded in winning the World Series. 1987 was put on hold while I 'played along' with the 2013 MLB season, so it took over a year to complete. In the 'Favorite sites/links' section are blogs for other seasons I've done: 1911, 1934, 1950, 1971 and more. (View blog fullscreen)
