June 9, 1969 Seattle at Detroit

Mickey Lolich was on top of his game and Norm Cash (pictured) came out of his recent batting funk as the Detroit Tigers defeated the new AL expansion team, the Seattle Pilots, 5-1. Lolich scattered 4 hits and struck out 11 in getting the win and lowerd his ERA to 2.16. His Seattle counterpart, Marty Pattin, didn't pitch too badly himself but he was no match for Tiger 1st baseman Norm Cash. Cash went 3 for 3 with 2 home runs, a walk and 3 rbi on the night. It was a tight game until the bottom of the 8th when the Tigers jumped on reliever Diego Segui for 3 runs, allowing Lolich to cruise through the 9th and up his record to 6-1.

Mickey Lolich whiffed 11 batters and Norm Cash slammed 2 homeruns and had 3

RBI at Tiger Stadium where the Detroit Tigers beat the Seattle Pilots 5 to

1.

Cash made sure the Detroit fans enjoyed themselves. He smashed a solo-shot

out of the park in the 2nd inning, clubbed a solo home run in the 4th inning

and ripped a one-base hit which brought home a run in the 8th inning.

Detroit had only 6 hits for the game.

Lolich(6-1) finished the game allowing 1 run in the victory. Marty Pattin(3-7)

was the losing pitcher. He gave up just 2 runs and 2 hits in 7 innings.

The Detroit fans were thrilled by the performance put forth by Lolich, but it

was clearly his strikeouts that they enjoyed most. 'When he reached 10

strikeouts the fans showed him their appreciation with a loud cheer.' Mayo

Smith said following the game.
