Frank Viola(5-5) thrilled the fans at County Stadium as he crafted a no-hit
masterpiece against the Milwaukee Brewers. The Minnesota Twins won by a
final score of 1 to 0.
Viola had his best stuff and was 'painting the black' with every pitch. A
beautiful game to watch. He walked 4 Milwaukee batters. The Minnesota
players and coaches started to leave Viola alone with his thoughts after the
game reached the 7th inning. By the time the 9th inning rolled around, you
could hear a pin drop every time he went to his wind-up - and an explosion
after every out. Minnesota finished with just 4 hits in the victory.
The losing pitcher was Chuck Crim(6-4). He allowed just 4 hits and no walks
in 8 and 2/3 innings. 'You probably have a better chance of winning the
lottery than this happening,' said Viola, 'I don't expect it to sink in for
awhile,' he said. 'I'm numb right now, I'm overwhelmed.'
