The Detroit Tigers are 9-1 their last 10 games and have overtaken the Toronto Blue Jays for the top spot in the AL East. The Tigers bullpen has struggled all year but their starting pitching has been getting the job done. Two days ago, Detroit announced that they had obtained Doyle Alexander from the Atlanta Braves to bolster their pitching staff. He'll join the rotation and get his first start tonight in Kansas City. The Seattle Mariners and Minnesota Twins continue to flip-flop for the top spot in the AL West with the surprising Mariners currently leading the Twins by 1 game. The Oakland A's have been making a run and are now in 3rd place, only 2 games behind. George Bell (Tor) has been destroying AL pitching all season long and leads all hitters with 49 HR and 124 RBI. Wade Boggs (Bos) continues to flirt with .400 BA. Jimmy Key (Tor), Roger Clemens (Bos), and Teddy Higuera (Mil) have put up the best numbers of a very good group of pitchers in the AL this year. |
