Andy Allanson slammed a homerun as the Cleveland Indians defeated the Detroit
Tigers by a score of 10 to 8 at Municipal Stadium.

Detroit was unable to claim the lead after Cleveland went ahead in the bottom
of the 7th inning scoring one runner on 2 base hits. Detroit made it
exciting in the 9th, but they were unable to push the needed runs across.

Ed Vande Berg(2-4) allowed no runs in 1 and 2/3 innings, and picked up the
victory. Mike Henneman(7-5) was the loser in relief. He allowed Cleveland 5
runs in 2 innings of work.

'Fundamentals, fundamentals, fundamentals' said Sparky Anderson after the
game. 'We lost this game tonight because we didn't follow the instructions
every Little Leaguer hears every day.'
