Dave Stewart struck out 10 batters and third baseman Carney Lansford had 2
base hits and 2 RBI as the Oakland A's defeated the New York Yankees in 11
innings 3 to 2 at Oakland Co Stadium.
The score was knotted at 2 after nine innings. Oakland came out on top in the
11th inning. Reggie Jackson drew a walk. Mickey Tettleton stepped up next
and he laid down a sacrifice bunt. One out later, Tony Bernazard came to bat
and singled giving Oakland the victory and sending the 48,276 home-town fans
home happy. Oakland managed 10 hits in their victory.
Stewart(15-9) got the victory, allowing 2 runs for the game. Tim
Stoddard(7-10) was hit with the loss in relief. When asked about his
strikeout total for the game, Stewart offered, 'The fan's really got into it.
It is fun to see them tally up the strikeout totals up there in the stands.
Fortunately, I kept them busy this afternoon - of course, it would be all for
naught without the 'W'.'
