In a tight game it was the Detroit Tigers 6, the Cincinnati Reds 4 at Tiger
Stadium.

Cincinnati found themselves trailing quickly as the Detroit bats came through
in the first inning when they scored 3 runs on 3 hits. The biggest moment
was provided by Larry Herndon who made the crowd come alive when he tripled
plating two runs. Cincinnati had a chance to come back in the 9th but they
came up short.

Jack Morris(1-0) got credit for the victory, pitching 7 and 1/3 innings and
allowing 2 runs. Morris got help from Mike Henneman who earned his 1st save.
Dennis Rasmussen(0-1) was the losing pitcher.
