The 1st place Baltimore Orioles are in town for a 3 game series against the 2nd place Detroit Tigers. In a rare Friday afternoon game at Tiger Stadium to celebrate the 4th of July, Mickey Lolich and the Tiger bullpen shut down the Orioles bats, paving the way to a 4-1 victory for the home town team. Mickey didn't have his best control, he walked 8, but Baltimore wasn't able to capitalize on all its base runners and the Tigers pen shut them down after Lolich left the game. Al Kaline hit a 2-run homer in the 1st inning for Detroit and that proved to be all the Tigers would need today. With the win, Detroit pulls within 1 game of Baltimore for the top spot in the AL East. |
