July 5, 1969 Baltimore at Detroit




The Baltimore Orioles and the Detroit Tigers were locked up in a tight well pitched game today until the 8th inning when the Tigers got back-to-back homeruns with 2 outs and pulled out a come from behind 4-2 victory. The Orioles Dave McNally and the Tigers Pat Dobson both carried no-hitters into the 6th inning before Detroit took a 1-0 lead. Baltimore struck back to grab a 2-1 lead in the 7th before Detroit's power display in the bottom of the 8th. With 2 out and a runner on 1st, Tiger 2nd baseman Dick McAuliffe (pictured) connected for his 12th home run of the year. Al Kaline was up next and he hit one out too. Don McMahon came on in the 9th and closed out the Tiger win. Detroit is now tied with Baltimore for 1st place in the AL East.

Pat Dobson didn't allow a hit until the 6th inning as the Detroit Tigers


bested the Baltimore Orioles 4 to 2 at Tiger Stadium.





Dobson(4-3) gave a fine effort for Detroit. He was reached for 5 hits and 3


walks in 8 innings. The right-handed Dobson lost a no-hitter when Frank


Robinson singled with two outs in the 6th inning. The game was a scoreless


duel until the 6th inning.





Don McMahon was credited with his 10th save. Pete Richert(2-4) took the loss


in relief. He allowed Detroit 3 runs in 2 innings of work.
