July 6, 1969 Baltimore at Detroit




The Tigers are in 1st place! The Detroit Tigers, behind the superb pitching of Denny McLain, defeated the Baltimore Orioles 4-1 to complete a 3 game series sweep of the former 1st place team. In a well pitched game by both clubs, McLain allowed only 5 hits while shutting out the Orioles for his 12th win of the season. The victory was Detroit's 6th in a row and moved the Tigers into the top spot of the AL East for the 1st time this season.

Denny McLain went 9 solid innings as the Detroit Tigers defeated the Baltimore


Orioles by the score of 4 to 0 at Tiger Stadium.





Baltimore never recovered after Detroit took the lead in the bottom of the 4th


inning plating one baserunner on 2 hits. Detroit banged out 7 hits on the


afternoon.





For McLain(12-4) it was his 2nd shutout this year. Jim Hardin(5-3) was hit


with the loss. He pitched 5 innings allowing 3 hits and 2 walks.





Detroit extended their winning streak to 6 games.
