1969 AL Det. at Oak. August 17th

The Detroit Tigers are in the midst of a 9 game West Coast trip and lost to the Oakland Athletics 3-2 today. With the victory, Oakland completes a 3 game sweep of Detroit and the Tigers drop to 5 games behind the Baltimore Orioles in the AL East. Jim Hunter (13-7) picked up the win for Oakland while Denny McLain (16-7) got the loss for Detroit. The Athletics scored 3 runs in the 1st inning off McLain and that was all they needed. A 2 run homer by Bill Freehan in the 5th was the only damage Detroit could muster against Hunter, who got the complete game victory. Detroit will now travel to Seattle for 3 games against the Pilots then on to Anaheim for 3 games against the California Angels before heading back home.

beat the Detroit Tigers 3 to 2.
 
Hunter(13-7) gave Oakland a solid outing. He allowed just 5 hits and 2 walks
in 9 innings.  Oakland had 9 hits for the afternoon.  
 
Denny McLain(16-7) was the losing pitcher.  He gave up 9 hits and 2 walks in 8
