Detroit Tigers announce trade with New York Yankees

June 16, 1969

The Detroit Tigers announced today that they have finalized a trade with the New York Yankees after both players involved passed their physicals. Tom Tresh (ss/of) was aquired by the Tigers for outfielder Ron Woods. The switch-hitting Tresh is expected to get most of his playing time at shortstop, allowing slick fielding Mickey Stanley to return to the outfield. Tom was named AL Rookie of the Year in 1962 and won a Gold Glove as an outfielder in 1965, so he is sure to get some playing time there too.

The Tigers arrived in New York today for the start of a 4 game series. Tresh will probably make his Tiger debut against his former team during the series.
