WEB GEMS- Bot 7th: Bobby Murcer robbed Ken McMullen of an extra base hit.
Frank Howard rocketed 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI at R.F.K. Stadium as the
Washington Senators embarrassed the New York Yankees by the lopsided score of
10 to 0.
Howard enjoyed a big evening at the plate. He popped a two-run clout over the
fence in the 1st inning, cleared the fences for a two-run home run in the 6th
inning and ripped a one-base hit in the 7th inning. Washington had 16 hits
for the night while New York had 8.
Dick Bosman(12-7) allowed no runs in 7 and 1/3 innings, and picked up the
victory. Mel Stottlemyre(14-15) was tagged with the loss. He allowed a few
too many baserunners giving up 9 hits and 2 walks in 4 innings.
'Howard led the way - we just jumped on his back and let him take us,' Bosman
said. 'I'm glad I don't have to face him. I'm glad he's on my team.'
