Well, the New York Mets did it! The Mets haven't been in 1st place since the first week of the season and I had my doubts wether they'd play good enough to win a title in my replay. But the Mets had a very good last month surge while the Pirates and Cubs struggled, allowing New York to win their division.
| Heading into the last day of the regular season the New York Mets were clinging to a one game lead over the Pittsburgh Pirates in the NL East. Tonight, the Mets defeated the Chicago Cubs 5-3 and with the win, clinched the East division title. The Pirates wound up losing their game to the Montreal Expos 7-4, leaving the Mets 2 games ahead of Pittsburgh at seasons end. The NL Championship Series will begin in 2 days with New York traveling to Atlanta for the start of the 5 game playoff. |
