Well, the New York Mets did it! The Mets haven't been in 1st place since the first week of the season and I had my doubts wether they'd play good enough to win a title in my replay. But the Mets had a very good last month surge while the Pirates and Cubs struggled, allowing New York to win their division.
Heading into the last day of the regular season the New York Mets were clinging to a one game lead over the Pittsburgh Pirates in the NL East. Tonight, the Mets defeated the Chicago Cubs 5-3 and with the win, clinched the East division title. The Pirates wound up losing their game to the Montreal Expos 7-4, leaving the Mets 2 games ahead of Pittsburgh at seasons end. The NL Championship Series will begin in 2 days with New York traveling to Atlanta for the start of the 5 game playoff. |
